Mission |
Our camp |
The mission of this camp is to empower girls as well as transgender, non-binary and gender-nonconforming youth from different backgrounds through music education and performance. Adolescence is a critical period for girls in terms of development of identity, self-esteem, and even sexuality. Our camp aims to encourage girls not to be afraid of expressing themselves or having a voice during this crucial time in their lives and for the rest of their lives. The goal of our camp is to cultivate a positive, open, and accepting environment where girls from all walks of life can build confidence, positive life and leadership skills, and explore expression through music.
|
During the week, girls will have the opportunity to choose an instrument - drums, guitar, bass, keyboard, and vocals - on which to learn the basics of playing and basics of the equipment that goes along with them. They will divide into bands, and collaborate to write an original song to perform at a showcase at the end of the week.
Participants will receive group instruction on their specific instruments, and will also spend time playing in a collaborative band with other girls. Band coaches will guide them through the aspects of playing, performing, and rehearsing music as a group and through the process of songwriting. Campers will also participate in various workshops related to music, girlhood, empowerment, and team building throughout the week. See staff, camp schedule, and sample day schedule on our "About Our Camp" page. |
